Choosing the right product
What size do I need?
Two numbers matter. Watts (W) is how much power the product can deliver at once, so it must cover everything running together. Watt-hours (Wh) is how much energy it stores, which sets how long it lasts. Try the backup panel on our homepage to total your appliances in seconds.
What are running and starting watts?
Appliances with motors, such as fridges, pumps and air conditioners, briefly draw two to three times their running power when they start. A power station or inverter needs enough surge capacity for that moment.
How long will a power station run my fridge?
Divide the battery’s usable watt-hours by the fridge’s average draw. A typical fridge averages far less than its rated watts because the compressor cycles on and off. Our sizer estimates runtime for you, and we’re happy to help with your exact model.
What’s the difference between a power station and a home backup system?
A power station is a portable battery with outlets on the front; you plug appliances into it. A home backup system connects to your home’s electrical panel through a transfer switch, inlet box or smart panel, so your circuits switch to battery power automatically.
What does LiFePO4 mean?
LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is a lithium battery chemistry known for long cycle life and thermal stability. It’s the chemistry used in most of the batteries and power stations we sell.
Can I add more battery capacity later?
Many power stations and battery systems are expandable with extra batteries. Each product page lists its compatible expansion options.
Can I charge with solar panels?
Yes, most power stations and inverters we sell accept solar input. Check the product’s solar input wattage and voltage range, and keep your panels within those limits.
Installation and safety
Can I connect a battery system to my house myself?
Anything connected to your home’s electrical panel, including transfer switches, inlet boxes and smart panels, must be installed by a licensed electrician and may need a permit. We don’t provide installation.
Can I use a power station indoors?
Yes. Battery power stations produce no exhaust, so they’re safe to use indoors when kept within their rated temperature range and away from heat sources.
Can I run a gas generator in my garage?
No. Never run a gas, propane or dual-fuel generator indoors, in a garage or in any enclosed space, even with the door open. Carbon monoxide can kill. Follow the manufacturer’s placement distances.
Can I rely on a power station for medical equipment?
Many people use power stations to keep devices like CPAP machines running during outages. If you depend on powered medical equipment, plan for backup to your backup and check the device’s power requirements with its manufacturer.
